Nokta Simplex Plus
The Nokta Simplex Plus is a fully waterproof, single-frequency metal detector aimed at beginners and value-minded coin, relic and beach hunters. It bundles free firmware updates, wireless audio and a rechargeable battery at an entry-level price, which is why hobbyists keep recommending it as a first machine that you will not quickly outgrow.
Pros
- Fully waterproof to 16 ft (5 m)
- Free online firmware updates over USB
- Light and well balanced at about 2.6 lbs
- Rechargeable battery and wireless audio
- Strong value for a first serious detector
Cons
- Single frequency, not multi-frequency like the Legend
- Monochrome screen rather than the Ultra's color LCD
- Bluetooth headphones not always included in the box
Overview
The Simplex Plus sits in Nokta's Simplex family as the waterproof all-rounder: simpler and cheaper than the multi-frequency Legend, but far more capable than bargain-bin starter detectors. It is submersible to 16 ft (5 m), so it handles rain, wet grass, shallow water and even shore diving without a second thought. At around 2.6 lbs it is light and well balanced, which matters when you are swinging for hours.
Nokta also updated the line over time. The newer Simplex Ultra adds a color LCD screen and a carbon-fiber shaft, while the Plus keeps the proven monochrome layout. If you want the full trade-off, see our Simplex vs Simplex Plus breakdown.
Key features
- Fully waterproof to 16 ft (5 m) - land, surf and freshwater without a cover.
- Lightweight and balanced - roughly 2.6 lbs for long sessions with less arm fatigue.
- Online firmware updates - connect via USB to a PC and Nokta pushes new features and tweaks for free.
- Wireless audio plus built-in lighting - Bluetooth headphone support, LCD backlight, keypad backlight and an LED flashlight for low-light and underwater use.
- Rechargeable lithium battery with USB charging - no disposable cells to buy.
Who it's for
This is a machine for newcomers who want one detector that covers parks, fields and the water line, and for experienced users who need a cheap, rugged backup or a dedicated water machine. A common sentiment on the forums sums it up well: one hobbyist on a tight budget who could not stretch to a Minelab Equinox kept hearing the Simplex "is a badass in its price point" and was deciding whether to pull the trigger. For most beginners, it is.
Versions and related models
Nokta sells the Simplex in several bundles - detector only, or kits that add the Nokta waterproof pinpointer, a premium 7.5 inch stainless digger with holster, a carrying bag and a finds pouch. If you want to compare it against the refreshed model, read the Simplex Plus review and the Simplex vs Simplex Plus comparison. How it compares and buying note
Against the step-up Legend, the Simplex Plus trades multi-frequency performance for a much lower price and dead-simple operation. Against cheaper single-frequency rivals, it wins on waterproofing, free updates and build quality. Prices move with the bundle you pick and current promotions, so check the latest on our Simplex Plus price page before you buy.

What owners say
Here is what detectorists say about this on public forums:
I dont really have the money for a minelab equinox 600 or 800. I keep reading that the Nokta Simplex is a badass in its price point. Should I pull the trigger? r/metaldetecting
If your thinking about the nokta makro simplex heres a quick review. Way too much "humor" and not much real information. I've got the simplex. r/metaldetecting
