Nokta Simplex Ultra Metal Detector

The Simplex Ultra is Nokta's refresh of the original Simplex waterproof all-rounder. It keeps the simple, beginner-friendly operation that made the line popular and layers on new aesthetics, a vivid color screen and a carbon-fiber build. Nokta rates it as fully waterproof up to 16 ft (5 m), so it works equally well in a park, a plowed field or wading the shallows.

It stays in the single-frequency VLF tier, which is what keeps it affordable. If you want true simultaneous multi-frequency, that is the job of the Nokta Legend and Legend 2. For most everyday hunting, the Ultra's performance is more than enough.

• Fully waterproof to 16 ft (5 m) - the whole machine, not just the coil, so it suits shallow diving and surf hunting.
• Carbon-fiber shaft that is durable and retracts down to about 25 in (63 cm) for easy transport and storage.
• Vivid color LCD with LCD backlight, keypad backlight and a built-in LED flashlight for low-light and underwater use.
• Lightweight and balanced at roughly 2.6 lbs (1.2 kg) for long sessions without fatigue.
• Free online firmware updates over USB, so the detector keeps improving after purchase.
• Bluetooth audio support (wireless headphones are sold with the WHP bundle, not the base kit).

The Ultra is aimed at the hobbyist who wants one detector that does it all. Beginners like the clear menu and the preset search modes; experienced users like the waterproofing and the firmware support. If you split your time between land and water, this is the natural pick in the Nokta lineup. Pure gold prospectors and deep-silver specialists are better served higher up the range.

The Simplex Ultra ships in a few configurations. The base kit is the detector itself; accessory bundles add a Nokta Pointer pinpointer and a premium digger, and the Simplex Ultra WHP version adds Bluetooth aptX Low Latency wireless headphones. Before you buy, it is worth reading the full Simplex Ultra review and dialing in the right Simplex Ultra settings. Budget-minded buyers can also look at the stripped-down Simplex Lite.

Within the family, the Ultra sits above the entry-level Lite and below the multi-frequency Legend machines. The Lite trims features to hit a lower price; the Legend adds simultaneous multi-frequency for tougher ground and saltwater. The Ultra's balance of waterproofing, weight and price is why it is often the default recommendation for a first serious detector.

Pricing moves between the base model and the accessory and WHP bundles, so compare the kit contents, not just the headline number. If you already own headphones you may not need the WHP version; if you do not, the bundle is usually cheaper than buying them separately. Check current listings before you decide.
